Roots
by Takako Segawa
May 5 to 25, 2024
In May, lead artist Takako Segawa is composing a month-long celebration of art culture exploration at The Jamii Hub. Under Takako's curation, everyone is invited to delve into the captivating theme of "Roots" - a theme that encourages a profound connection with the diverse origins that shape our identities, whether rooted in varied cultures or within the intricate tapestry of one's own self, transcending the geographical boundaries we call home.
Reflecting on the multifaceted aspects of our lives, we are prompted to consider what constitutes our personal 'roots.' Is it the places we've called home, the ancestral origins that echo through our family history, or perhaps the intricacies of our gender identity? How have these profound elements influenced and manifested in our artistic endeavors?
As we navigate this exploration, the belief in nurturing the metaphorical 'tree' of self becomes evident. Just as a tree draws strength and sustenance from its roots, so too can we find resilience and depth by nourishing the essence of who we are.
