A NEIGHBOURHOOD CHAMPION IS HEADING TO THE SOUTH FRANCE!
The draw for Jamii’s Trip to France raffle took place on June 30 at 1:30 PM at The Jamii Hub, with community members in attendance. After completing the necessary verification process, we are excited to officially announce the winner of a trip for two to the South of France!
The winner is a resident of The Esplanade neighbourhood, and he is certainly no stranger to our community. For nearly two decades, this individual has dedicated his time to serving local residents, including as a Toronto Community Housing delegate with the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association, a member of 51 Division’s Community Police Liaison Committee, and a valued member of the Advisory Council for the St. Lawrence Community Recreation Centre.
CONGRATULATIONS TO DOUG MAYBANK!
Doug has been an incredible presence in our neighbourhood for many years, and we could not be happier to see this prize go to someone who has given so much to our community.
Thanks to the wonderful support of everyone who purchased tickets, the raffle raised just over $20,000. These funds will make a meaningful difference in supporting Jamii’s home at 264 The Esplanade and the many free arts and community programs we offer throughout the year.
We are deeply grateful to every person who purchased one or more tickets. By taking part, you did more than enter for the chance to win an unforgettable trip. You chose to invest in your local arts organization and support meaningful artistic experiences, opportunities for youth, and community programs that bring people together.

JOY IN THE PARK - JULY EDITION!
WHEN | Saturday, July 25, from 6 PM to 8 PM
WHERE | David Crombie Park (The Esplanade and Princess St)
Joy in the Park returns to David Crombie Park on Saturday, July 25, with a free summer evening of live music, dance, art, and neighbours coming together.
Enjoy the high-energy sounds of Sambaê, an all-women samba band, followed by a dynamic performance by Lua Shayenne Dance Company rooted in African and Afro-diasporic dance, live percussion, song, and call-and-response. Audiences will be invited to clap, respond, move, and feel part of the rhythm.
There will also be crafts for children, face painting by Linda Epp, henna by Krishna Patel, stiltwalking by Hayley Landry, and a slice of Jamii’s 15th Anniversary birthday cake for everyone.
Chairs and blankets will be available, and you are welcome to bring your own. Bring your friends, family, and neighbours for a joyful evening in the park!
COMMUNITY CLOTHING REPAIR DAY
WHEN | Sunday, July 26, from 10 AM to 3 PM
WHERE | The Jamii Hub, 264 The Esplanade
Give a piece of clothing a second life at Community Clothing Repair Day, a free, all-ages drop-in event presented by the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association’s Waste Reduction Group, Repair Café Toronto, and Jamii.
Bring one garment that needs a simple repair, and volunteer menders will do their best to fix it. The team may be able to help with missing buttons, small tears or holes, open seams, simple patches, basic hems, and other quick mending jobs.
Repairs are first come, first served and depend on the complexity of the repair and volunteer capacity. Major alterations, complex zipper replacements, leather or specialty fabrics, and extensive repairs may not be possible.
Please bring one item per person. No registration is required.

"THE WILD ROBOT" AT THE JAMII HUB

Join us for a free LAINI Girls’ Movie Night screening of The Wild Robot at The Jamii Hub!
Girls ages 6 to 11 are invited to a drop-off evening with pizza, popcorn, and a story filled with nature, curiosity, connection, and heart.
This movie night offers a calm and welcoming way to spend the evening, with time to enjoy the film, be with other girls, and feel part of something shared.
This screening is part of Jamii’s LAINI Girls’ Movie Nights series, a set of special movie nights happening through the year for girls ages 6 to 11.
The next movie night: Saturday, August 22, 2026.
These events are free for participants with registration. Registration is required, and space is limited.

WAYO Children’s Festival returns from August 12 to 16 with The Mudlark’s Mother, an original family arts experience for children under 12 and their families. The festival starts at 235 The Esplanade and moves through a maze-like route, with five short immersive performances across Berkeley Castle and Berkeley Theatre.
Through music, movement, storytelling, interactive art, sensory experiences, and face painting, families will follow a story rooted in neighbourhood history and belonging. Directed by Jamii’s Alchemist Isorine Marc, the festival features artists including Jonelle Sills, Nickeshia Garrick, Alison McDonald, Liboi, and Linda Epp.
Tickets are $5 and limited. Please reserve in advance.

Jamii is building a neighbourhood network of residents who can help share free events, workshops, and community programs in their buildings. This could mean putting up posters, sharing a quick event link in a WhatsApp or Facebook group, or forwarding a short blurb to a building newsletter.
It’s simple, flexible, and makes a real difference. The more buildings we can reach, the more neighbours, families, kids, and older adults can hear about free programs they may enjoy and benefit from.
