October 2024
David Crombie Park - Hahn Place & The Esplanade

On Friday, October 4th, and Saturday, October 5th, Jamii hosted "Joy in the Park" at David Crombie Park, bringing together an all-ages crowd for joyful live music, stunning dance performances, and complimentary hot chocolate and apple cider!

The evenings began with live music from Moskitto Bar, a incredible group blending Balkan, French Celtic, Iraqi Middle-Eastern, and Ukrainian influences. Known for their performances across Ontario and Québec, including the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Moskitto Bar’s vibrant sounds captivated the audience.

Between their musical sets, and with a warm sip of hot chocolate in hand, attendees enjoyed Earth Synergy, a dynamic dance performance by Artists in Motion (AIM). This piece, exploring our connection to time and the four elements, was a powerful showcase of energy, movement, and music. Directed by Shameka Blake, AIM is celebrated for works that highlight social justice and Black culture, with performances across the GTA, including Dusk Dances festival.

With the lively tunes of Moskitto Bar and the evocative movement of AIM, Joy in the Park was an exciting, energizing event, filling two October evenings with music, dance, and community warmth.

Artist Line-up: Moskitto Bar (Tangi Lion, Shahriar Siavash, Majd Sukkar, Dijerdam Baiano Gomez) and Artists in Motion
