Monthly conversations about Belonging programs, ideas, and community needs

Belonging is shaped with the people who take part in it. Through the Belonging Programming Committee, older adults in the program have a regular place to share ideas, talk about what is working, suggest activities, and help guide what Belonging can offer next.

The committee includes ten regular Belonging participants and two Jamii staff members, but monthly Programming Committee meetings are open to any Belonging participant who would like to attend. You do not need to be one of the regular committee members to join the conversation.

Meetings are informal and collaborative. Participants might talk about workshops they would like to see, ideas for outings or social gatherings, feedback from recent activities, or needs they are noticing within the community. Some conversations may lead to new programming, while others help Jamii understand how existing activities could better respond to participants' interests and experiences.

The committee is an important part of how Belonging approaches programming. Rather than Jamii deciding everything on behalf of participants, older adults have an ongoing opportunity to contribute to the decisions that affect the program they take part in. It creates space for participant leadership, shared responsibility, and ideas that come directly from the community.

For older adults interested in community involvement, participatory programming, or having a greater voice in local activities in downtown Toronto, the Programming Committee offers a practical way to get involved. You can attend regularly or join a meeting when you have something you would like to contribute.

Meetings take place at The Jamii Hub at 264 The Esplanade, in Toronto's St. Lawrence neighbourhood, and are usually held just after a Belonging Potluck.

If you already participate in Belonging, you are welcome at the table. Bring an idea, a question, some feedback, or simply come listen to what others are thinking.

Jamii's Belonging Older Adults programs are sponsored by Government of Canada, Canada Council for the Arts, Metcalf Foundation - Booster Fund, St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association, Rama Gaming House, and Charitable Gaming.
