QUILTED JACKET

Wednesday, October 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 7 PM to 9 PM

Artist: Svetlana Bassauer

This sewing workshop series is part of Jamii’s October Cycle and reflects the 2026 theme, It Feels Right. Guided by Svetlana Bassauer of Lana Marc Sewing Studio, participants turn a quilt, blanket, or meaningful textile into something you can wear in this four-part sewing workshop at The Jamii Hub.

This workshop invites participants to create a cozy fall garment using quilted fabric, blankets, or personal textiles. The look of each jacket depends on the material chosen, so every finished piece carries its own colour, texture, pattern, and story.

This sewing workshop is designed to be flexible for different comfort levels. Participants who are newer to machine sewing can keep the project simple and approachable, while those with more experience can explore additional construction details and finishing techniques. Over four Wednesday evenings, the group moves from layout and cutting to garment construction, bias-tape finishing, and the small details that help bring each piece together.

Participants are welcome to bring a quilt, blanket, or textile from home, especially if they have something meaningful they would like to transform. Thrifted quilts, quilted blankets, wool blankets, cotton sheets, and lightweight patterned fabrics can also work beautifully for this project. The main thing to keep in mind is thickness: quilted materials already have several layers, so lighter or medium-weight textiles is easier to sew.

Materials are provided by Jamii for participants who do not have their own textiles, removing barriers and allowing participants to focus fully on the creative process.

These workshops are designed to support confident beginners and intermediate sewists. Participants are expected to attend all sessions in the month in order to complete the project.

Important registration note: Because this project develops step-by-step across the month, participants are expected to attend all workshop sessions in order to complete their garment.

Workshops are free for participants. Registration is required, and space is limited.
