SOCA & CARIBBEAN RHYTHMS

March 2026
SOCA & CARIBBEAN RHYTHMS
Monday, March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 from 7 PM to 8:30 PM
Facilitator: Michael Mortley
This dance workshop series is part of Jamii’s March Cycle and reflects the 2026 theme, It Feels Right. Led by Michael Mortley, this dancing workshop series explores Soca and Caribbean movement as expressions of rhythm, culture, and collective joy. Participants are invited to move with energy, curiosity, and presence while connecting to music rooted in Caribbean traditions.
Across five sessions, participants build endurance, coordination, and musical awareness through dynamic movement sequences inspired by Soca and Calypso. The workshop welcomes a wide range of bodies and abilities, with seated movement options available for those who need them. The focus is on moving with intention, finding your own rhythm, and sharing space with others through dance.
This workshop is open to all movement levels and abilities. No previous dance experience is required. Come ready to move, create, connect, and have fun.
Workshops are free for participants. Registration is required, and space is limited.
Support free community arts
Jamii keeps workshops free so everyone can take part, without financial barriers. If you’re able, you can support our $15 for 15 Years campaign and help us reach $15,000 by December 15 for Jamii’s future programs at The Jamii Hub. Your donation moves the goal forward and is eligible for a charitable tax receipt. Donate here now.
Jamii’s Cycle Programs are sponsored by Canada Council for the Arts, Toronto Arts Council, TD Ready Commitment, Metcalf Foundation, Rama Gaming House, and Charitable Gaming.
